WORKING ON BEHALF OF OUR MEMBERS
Our mission is to drive sustainable demand for Northern Irish wool in order to maximise returns for our members.

Ulster Wool update

With the better weather in recent weeks, the depot team has been busy out delivering wool sheets - we’ve also had some wool delivered, with shearing starting in some areas.

Providing a high level of service is key, and Ulster Wool has been reviewing the network and has two new sites operating this summer in Enniskillen and Coleraine.  For more information on your local collection centre, please visit Depot Network | Ulster Wool.

May each year see the start of the shearing courses held in Northern Ireland, and yet again this year, there are over 10 courses held, ranging from young farmers benefiting from the 50% discount to more experienced shearers looking to develop further their knowledge and skill.  Supporting the next generation of shearers and wool handlers is important and key to the Northern Ireland sheep industry.

The Balmoral Show also saw, for the second year in succession, several displays from primary schools across Northern Ireland as part of the ‘Wool Innovators Project’ that was funded by the Worshipful Company of Woolmen and facilitated by Ulster Wool and Sentinus.  The inspirational displays generated a lot of interest among those attending the show - we thank all schools who participated this year and the Royal Ulster Agricultural Society for their support.

In the shearing shed, Ulster Wool was delighted to be a sponsor and celebrate the successes at the show this year.  Ulster Wool Ambassador, Jack Robinson, was successful in winning the Northern Ireland Machine Shearing National Championship, and our Joint Depot Manager, Jayne Harkness-Bones, won the Northern Ireland Wool Handling National Championship. Congratulations to both and everyone else competing, including Ulster Wool Ambassador Rachel Murphy.

As we enter June, we are only a month away from the NSA Northern Ireland event this year taking place at Regional Chairman Alwyn McFarlane’s farm in Dungiven on 1st July. We look forward to what will be an interesting and informative day, and Ulster Wool will be in attendance with a stand, a fleece competition and also supporting the shearing and wool handling demonstrations during the day.
